Awesome TV and Delivery Service

Review Date: April 26, 2009
Reviewer: Mehmet, Seattle, WA USA
I purchased this from Amazon.com, with the scheduled delivery from CEVA. Ordered last sunday, delivery was one week later. Having the option of sunday delivery was great, and the delivery was very professional and definitely white glove.

Two people brought the TV in (carrying properly as this is a plasma), opened the box, put the TV on the stand, powered the TV on and waited for me to check whether there is any problem with the TV. They also offered to remove packaging if I wanted to get rid of it. Sometimes you cannot even get such good service when you pay $100+ for shipping. Given that shipping was free, I was thrilled.

TV is awesome, right out of the box. It looks great, works great. Picture is top notch. I put in an HD-DVD version of Transformers and was amazed at the picture quality. This is my first plasma TV and I believe it is much better than LCD. I had a Samsung 4061F before, and this TV has better picture than that one, despite the Samsung being 1080P and this being 720P. There's no motion blur whatsoever on this TV.

Checking on the web a little, I made the settings to be: pic mode custom, contrast +78, brightness +57, color +53, tint -9, sharpness +29, everything else off, black levels light and temp normal. These settings turned out to be perfect for the TV.

Five stars for the TV, purchasing experience and the delivery service.
Much better than LCD!

Currently, I have 4 HDTVs in my house. Sony Bravia LCD (less than 1 year old and it is a 1080P), Sony HD Cineza (1080i) in my theater room, Panasonic Plasma EDTV (about 9 years old which I pay a lot of money for it when Plasma first came out) and the newly purchased Panasonic VIERA X1 Series TC-P42X1 (720P). I can tell you that this Plasma is much better than the $1499 Sony Bravia LCD 1080P. The picture is super clear even just connect it with cable and Satellite. DVD is incredible and you do not need a Blue-Ray player becasue regular DVD is just as good as Blue-Ray on this one. I have all the technologies, cable/DirecTV, Toshiba HD-DVD player, Sony PS3 Blue-Ray, DVD recorder all connected to this set. So far this is the best $800 plasma you can buy. My old Panasonic Plasma which just was an Enhanced Definition and it is about 10 years now and the picture is still looking good. I never had any problem with Panasonic TV and it is a better brand in Japan than Sony. Go get one, you will be pleased!
P.S. The sound quality on this set is also above what other brands can offer. You have to hear and see it!
I made the right choice! Love this TV!

So I wont write a book about this TV, but I'll share my experience best I can.

I spent months deciding on a TV. Did I want LCD or Plasma? 50" or 40"? Panasonic, Sony, or Samsung? Etc etc. I even went to a couple stores and looked at them, that only helped to further confuse the situation.

So after lots of reading online and researching specifics like 720p vs 1080p and LCD vs Plasma, I decided to go with this one. Between the customer reviews, the specs, and the price....I couldn't find anything better.

The color is absolutely perfect! The 42" screen is exactly the right size for my room (couch is about 8-10ft away and its mounted above the fireplace). I mainly watch movies or play xbox 360, and I really had a hard time finding reviews on TV's from people with 360's. I just want to clarify that all my games look awesome! COD4, COD5, Assassin's creed, Fallout 3, all of them look incredible. The only issue is that some times it judders the picture. Not often, and not enough for me to worry, but it does happen once and awhile.

I hooked this TV up to a Onkyo 7.1 surround sound system, and mounted it on the wall with a mount from monoprice ($50 mount that swivels, tilts, and moves away from the wall). Everyone that has come over and seen it loves it. I finally have the perfect setup for myself!

And ordering from Amazon was a pleasure as always. The box did come with a big rip in it, but I wrote the info down on the delivery guys paper and took a chance. TV has zero problems and is packed well from the factory to take abuse.

Can't beat this value/price point for a 42

I already have a Sharp Aquos 46" and a Panasonic 42" Plasma--both 2 years old--and I love them both. I bought the Panasonic Viera 42" X1 about two weeks ago for $[...], and you can now get it for $[...] at a couple of places (like one of the other reviewers, I was able to use the [...]). The new X1 is definitely better than either of the other TVs I own in terms of black levels, lack of blurring, and power consumption. Connectivity is excellent, with 3 HDMI inputs. The SD card slots are nice, too, although I consider the SD card stuff to be a fringe benefit and not a core reason to buy this set. I had read a couple of expert reviews stating that it's not possible to tell the difference between 720p and 1080p on sets less than 46", and my own experience bears this out. Since I look at high resolution images for a living, I am probably as picky as you can get about image quality and resolution. For me, the Panasonic X1 is definitely the best 720p unit out there, and you don't need to waste money on a 1080p unit that is only 42" or less. I spent many weeks comparing picture quality side-by side on Panasonic, Samsung, Vizio, Sharp, and Toshiba, among others, at several different stores and in every case the Panasonic was clearly superior.

The picture quality right out of the box is excellent, but I used the settings described elsewhere in these reviews and in on-line columns and the picture is even better. It took less than 5 minutes to do this because the Panasonic menu is clear and intuitive to follow. Picture quality on non-HD channels is also excellent.

Sound quality is noticeably better than on any of the other brands in the same price range, though if you're going to connect it to a surround-sound system this feature won't make a difference to you. The hum mentioned in a previous review is clearly a one-off thing, and probably due to non-TV electrical interference issues in the reviewer's apartment.

I love the richness of colors on an LCD set, but when you are watching fast-action stuff like sports, the 600Hz X1 is far less blurry than any LCD TV within $[..]of this set--just look at a baseball or hockey game and try watching the ball or puck on an LCD (even the new 240Hz ones) vs. the Panasonic X1 plasma and you'll see what I mean. Glare, even in daylight in a room with lots of windows, is minimal although I would give the edge to my Sharp Aquos LCD in this regard.

If there is a drawback to the Panasonic X1 it is the lack of PC connectivity, but with a cable and adaptor available from most good electronics stores (like You-Do-It Electronics in my area) you can overcome this issue as well. Another potential drawback is that the response time is rated at 8ms, which some gamers would find slower than ideal, but since I don't use the TV for games I could care less. Again, to find a set with a 4ms response time requires spending a lot more $$.

I agree with other reviews that the remote is relatively basic and could use a backlight, but this is par for the course in TVs in this price range, and I found the response time of the remote was excellent (ie, pressing a button resulted in an immediate effect with no lag). Since like most people I use my cable remote to handle everything, the TV remote just sits near the set unused once I set the TV up and adjusted the picture settings.

For me, this is by far the best value in a 42" HDTV.
I's a poppin

I did a pretty large amount of research into HDTV before I chose this unit. I have been in the IT business for about 30 years now, and I have seen everything from CRT to LCD for small/medium/large/incomprehensible stuff. One thing about LCD screens is that no matter how one tunes the output, many of them produce obvious ghost lines (look carefully -- the straight lines usually stand out, and ghostly seam is about 3 millimeters to the right of the picture). I decided to go with plasma because they are brilliant emitters, and because the picture itself never has the ghostly seams.

The VIERA I got does things that are amazing. Black on this unit is black -- any blacker and there would be a singularity involved. I waited until 6/24 to activate HD programming, and made a quick comparison of Spongebob Squarepants. In standard definition, the picture has artifacts in it, but you have to work to find them because of the 600hz subfield processing of the picture. Anyway, in high definition, the picture has no artifacts at all, every line in the cartoon looks like it was drawn right there on your screen! I really could go on and on.

Color is no more brilliant, but the overall quality of the picture is much, much higher than on older sets. With this unit, watching HD is like watching Kodachrome move. You really have to see it. Sound is not bad. Only 720p native; but it does an accurate job of down-converting 1080p. Even so, this thing is like a geyser of cool mountain water in the Sahara.

Despite its bulk, it can be single-handedly mounted on a VESA mount. Use as many extenders as possible -- otherwise the cord yard is unmanageable without taking the unit off the wall. Also, with the picture on full brightness, the screen is only as warm as a handshake (back in the 80's, touch sensitive plasma terminals usually got uncomfortably hot to the touch). Picture has excellent visibility from about 12 feet at nearly any angle. A trio of 100W equivalent compact about 4 feet away interferes with the picture, however, the anti-glare coating works. The bulbs reflect as bulbs on the screen, but only about an eighth of the screen is overwhelmed by their light, and the rest of the screen is not reflecting back much, if any at all.

Samsung LN46B750 Review

Review Date: May 9, 2009
Reviewer: Douglas Fitzpatrick, California, Mission Viejo USA
I am simply "speechless" regarding the Picture Quality with just a few adjustments out of the box!! This Samsung set is simply gorgeous with it's glossy wet black piano like finish, not to mention how good it looks even when turned off! This set has many real world usable features in store for you, plus a ton of options for customizing the picture to suit your preferences.

You can also tailor the way your set handles the AMP or Auto Motion Plus 240Hz, from ultra smooth while watching sports with 0 motion blurr to a more realistic film like smoothness. This is the first LCD HDTV that I have seen to actually have whiter whites and blacker blacks, until now only plasmas were capable of dark jet blacks and whiter whites!

This Samsung LCD HDTV is more like a computer, instead of a paper manual it comes with a USB 2.0 flash drive (E-Manual) where you just plug it in and you can just scan the manual on your beautiful 46" inch screen. You can also update the firmware version at anytime in the future for added features, bug fixes and maybe even hardware compatibility issues.

The sound I thought was pretty good for a flat panel, the remote is the icing on the cake. The remote is 100% backlit and has a nice glossy finish that fits well in hand. I did a lot of research on just about every HDTV on the market for a whole month and this set has the better picture quality of all the others out there, if you buy this set you won't be disapointed one bit!

Samsung has come a long way in just a short amount of time, there products a hard to beat cost and performance wise! I bought this set from Amazon on Friday and was delivered the following Wednesday, I don't know how Amazon managed that one quick shipment! A big thanks to the shipping company Pilot for their excellent friendly and help for getting it all set-up for me, the whole experience was joyful!

Crisp, clear, and smooth images. Bright colors and deep blacks.

Pros:
Crisp, clear, and smooth images. Bright colors and deep blacks. Light weight, low power consumption, low heat generation. PC and internet connectivity.

Cons:
Remote is not universal. Judder reduction can cause motion artifacts.

I knew I wanted a Samsung because their sets were clearer and brighter than the other brands. I even met a Sony employee that bought a Samsung so apparently he thinks so, too. I chose the B750 model because of the true 240 Hz, 2 ms response, limited internet, and ultra clear display. This model has some grey on the black frame which is less distracting than the red-trim on the other models. It also has a nice remote (BN59-00851A) as opposed to the wheel-lagging remote found on the other models.

The set is extremely light. I was able to pickup and setup the TV myself. The shipping box is not tamper-proof though, so anyone can open the tabs and replace the TV with bricks. The glass rectangular-base swivel stand is very stable as opposed to the oval-base stand found on the other models. I was at the epicenter of a 4.7 earth quake 1 week after buying the set. It happened while I was watching TV, which barely even wobbled. Everything worked out of the box with no quality control issues. This model even included a 500Mb thumb drive for the e-manual. You can upload music, pics and vids to the TV's built-in 2Gb memory.

Blu-rays and video games are really crisp. You'll have to adjust the display settings, but once adjusted the whites are extremely bright and the blacks are really dark. The 150,000:1 contrast ratio allows me to see images in dark scenes I couldn't see on the DLP set I used to have. I've read from other reviews about flash-lighting or pixilation. I believe these artifacts are broadcasted from the source station (i.e. the CBS symbol looks funny b/c CBS uses lossy-compression or low-rez graphics). None of these artifacts show up with games or Blu-rays.

The channel listing feature is pretty good. It lists programming for each station up to 6 hrs ahead, but you sometimes have to tune to that channel in order to update the information (channel surfing works, too).
The speakers are good, too. There's an adjustable 5-band equalizer. I can actually hear the simulated surround sound effect in my small living room.

AutoMotionPlus is super smooth and gives my old DVD library a fresh new look. The feature can be turned off or adjusted on 10 levels. This feature consists of Blur Reduction which eliminates motion blur to create crisp moving text/images, and Judder Reduction which interpolates images between frames to give super-smooth video. If Judder is set too high, the movie can look like a soap opera. It can also create motion artifacts such as ghosting or gasoline haze.

Feature for feature, the LN46B750 is the best 46" TV you can get at under $2000.
Samsung Continues to Shine

I have been a Sony TV fan for years but when I began shopping for HDTVs, it was clear that the torch had been passed to Samsung. Go to a Best Buy or other big box store and look at the screens from 50-100 feet away and you will quickly conclude that Samsung's always have the brighest image. Over a year ago I bought a 62" DLP for the "theater room" in the basement, and just a few weeks ago I picked up the LN46B750 to mount over our fireplace in the family room. I am one of those shoppers that analyzes everything available, reads reviews, etc. and when Amazon offered this new 240Hz model at special $300 discount it was a no-brainer. The B750 is great in all respects -- from picture quality to "extras" like being able to connect to some web-based services via widgets (the wireles adapter is NOT provided). My wife, who usually could care less about any electronic purchase, has even praised such features as screen-displayed caller ID and automtic running of photo screen shows. I shopped for several months for this television and have had absolutely no regrets about its features or performance thus far.
Samsung - LN46B750 - Buyer Review

Review Date: July 29, 2009
Reviewer: D. Kowal, DC
I spent about 6 months reviewing LCD TV's and narrowed my search down to the Samsung and the Sony XBR. I opted for the Samsung because it was a "little" bit more bearable on costs and the few bucks saved bought me some other tech goodies that I am using in concert with my new Samsung LCD. The XBR isn't bad though. I just went with my gut after my research. On with the review:

One of the best, and I do mean best, reviews that I've ever read was from practical-home-theater-guide dot com. Just an awesome job of a non-biased, objective approach on this unit. Really helped my decision process too.

The Samsung LN46B750 gives you a lot to like, many great features, a wonderful picture that anyone would consider truly amazing. 240hz is the latest 'buzz' word for marketing purposes. You can't see "that much" of a difference with the naked eye versus the 120hz. You can see a huge difference versus the 60hz. The LN46B750 gives you vast controls, unlike many other before. Controls for altering the picture tremendously, as you see fit, or necessary. The TV takes some time to get used to if you're NOT tech savvy, because there are just many new words or features that probably most people don't really get into all that much. But, they are features nonetheless and they do help the user control the picture appearance.

The LN46B750 provides yahoo widgets which I thought was really neat. These are programmable to the users likings, you pick which widgets you want, I like the weather, sports, news, stocks, etc. Comes in handy when I'm glued to my couch. NOTE: When connecting to the Internet, via an RJ45 Cat5 or Cat6 Ethernet cable to your wireless router; you'll have to perhaps turn off the TV and let the connection reintialize to get it to synch. I also definitely prefer the "wired" versus "wireless" approach for using the DLNA and Internet@TV function.

Additionally, if you decide to hook up an Internet ready box like ROKU, or a Blu Ray player, which I did, the wired approach vastly improves speeds. Wireless will only get you so far. Like using your laptop wireless-ly. That's fine, but with live streaming video from Amazon or NetFlix, you'll wish you had a wired connection. No pauses, no gaps, no slow speeds, etc, you get the idea.

Having my TV talk to the Internet is way cool. Just seems like it should've already been there in this modern day and age. With technology ever changing, it only makes sense to me. Kudo's on bleeding edge, emerging technologies.

The LN46B750 connects to your home PC, as if your PC was acting like a server. Basically once you connect the PC SHare software, the LN46B750 can retrieve any folder that you've elected to share. Music, Video files, Images, pictures, the whole lot. How cool is that?

With Home Networking, this TV will also receive text messages and incoming phone calls from your cell phone (only on SELECTED MODELS). That's pretty neat too, eh?

Image quality - superb. I think it looks just as good as the LED and can't see spending the extra bucks on an LED with 240hz, because you're talking a substantial increase. All for what? Can't see it.

Now having said that, I believe it's the B650 model which gives you pretty much the same exact features minus the 240hz , which is something to consider as well.

Roku is really nice on this. I enjoyed the ability to stream from netflix and/or Amazon. With great image quality too. Surprising, coming over a public network (internet).

Deep blacks, what does that mean? Means that the blacks are blacks and not "off-black". Very accurate natural looking colors, good shadow detail, excellent connectivity options, HDMI, DLNA support, USB 2.0, Anynet, Internet@TV, Yahoo Widgets, 240hz refresh, "ultra-clear panel" screen which truly helped on glare reduction IMHO, makes the Samsung LN46B750 a great purchase for the buyer who wants a top quality product.

Delivery was smooth, as anticipated, no problems there.

All-in-all, if you're willing to spend about $300 bucks extra for 240hz auto-motion plus, then it's a great buy. The image you'll get in your own living room will truly amaze you. Kinda akin to seeing it in the store, but just completely way way better. The stand does swivel on this model. ToC is faint but cool. I prefer it over the red, just my opinion. Red is fine too though. Samsungs only flaw, which I can't really fault them for, is the sound. The LN46B750 is was not designed to be an AWESOME TV annnnndddd and AWESOME SURROUND SYSTEM. If you're going to purchase a top quality, state of the art LCD TV, then fork out the extra bucks if you can do it and go get you a 5.1 or 7.1 surround system. Or even a panel bar system, something of the sort. This will truly bring your TV alive and you will only then, get the true experience of a home theater system. Having this TV w/o a surround system is like buying a great looking 57 Chevy, fully re-conditioned, with a 4 banger in it. Please. Do yourself justice and get the surround system to go with it!

I would highly recommend the LN46B750 to anyone. I've owned the TV for 1 day and have almost fully mastered it. If I can help or assist anyone with the unit, please feel free to email me at anytime.

Thanks,
dak970@yahoo

I spend my professional time doing video production, and I spent over 35 yrs. as a Professional photographer, so I know a little about quality images, and this is like going from an old Polaroid to a Kodachrome slide !!
Having watched everyone else's HD home units, I decided it was time to make the move myself, and WOW ! This provides a super sharp HD image, and I spent over 4 months looking at all that was within my budget in HD LCD's, and this Sammy does it all in spades. I no longer have to visit friends homes to see great HD and BluRay videos, as I can watch them at my home now. Price was just right, and free shipping was a big bonus too! Got it when Amazon had a $300 discount coupon going until the 15th, and I couldn't be happier! Great TV, great service, and what's not to like about this Samsung? Just make the move and buy one, you will not regret this one !!

Motionflow 120Hz takes both high-definition and standard programming a step further by increasing sharpness and detail in fast-moving images for more fluid, natural motion. In addition, BRAVIA V-Series HDTVs use proprietary Image Blur Reduction technology to further enhance the picture for even better performance. The HDTVs also feature BRAVIA Engine 2 technology, which uses exclusive Sony algorithms to reduce visual noise and sharpen and enhance an already-striking dynamic contrast ratio. Additionally, they include seven versatile HD connections to ensure you get impressive image quality from all your HD components. Take advantage of four HDMI inputs, component and composite inputs, and a PC input, as well as a USB input that lets you play audio files from USB storage devices, or connect a compatible camera to your HDTV for a quick and easy slide show. Sony knows your home theater set-up doesn't stop with your HDTV, which is why the BRAVIA V-Series HDTVs are compatible with BRAVIA Link Modules -- including the BRAVIA Wireless Link, BRAVIA DVD Link, and BRAVIA Input Link Modules (all sold separately). A Wow Item - Just Terrific

Review Date: June 30, 2009
Reviewer: F. William Hessmer, Chevy Chase, MD USA
Just received this last week. Of course, Amazon beat any other pricing by a wide margin - by at least $500 for the cheapest store bought price (on sale) and I even checked some stores on a walk in and they were charging $1,000 above the Amazon price or more. Delivery was free and could not wait to get this set out of the box. I researched a great many LCD's before picking this one. I wanted the very latest technology to ward off obsolesence, at the best price I could find, and am not disappointed one bit by this set. Easy set up, and just with the building's digital antenna, the picture is absolutely outstanding. There are many presets, but with a bit of tweaking, as it appears with most LCDs, you get a terrific picture. You can customize each preset if you wish. Setting adjustments are intuitive and the screen navigation is very easy. Sound is pretty decent as well, although I already have it hooked into my AV. I have already watched sports, television and DVDs and all have been as crisp, vibrant, without drag or latency, as I have ever seen on an LCD this size. The contrast ratio is just unreal and my eyes are still getting used to it. Plenty of input/output options including plenty of HDMI and even ethernet and PC connections. Having Fios HD installed this week and can't wait to see how it looks. So far, am very satisfied and would definitely recommend at the price. Thanks Amazon!
Amazing picture

I bought this TV because of Sony's legendary reputation in beautiful pictures and previous experience with the XBR line. As expected, the picture is absolutely great. If you want amazing HDTV, then this set is for you. The TV has a very simple and understated front, which I like a lot. The Amazon delivery was great! Two men brought it into the house, put it where we wanted it, connected it, turned it on and checked the remote for operation. The deliveryman was familiar with the TV and went above and beyond by doing the initial setup, which admittedly was simple, but not something he was required to do. There are only two drawbacks so far. The stand is flimsy feeling and wobbles like a weeble if you bump the set. My XBR4 had a rock solid stand. I just attached a cable to the wall for piece of mind (didn't want it falling on the grand kids). The second thing is a lack of PIP or P&P, both of which were on my KDL40XBR4. Bottom line--love it so far.
Wonderful TV

Tried the LG 47 inch LH40 and then the Samsung 46 inch LED B6000. Had both for about two weeks before returning them. The Sony not only has more features but has a much better and consistent picture than the previous two. The LG has a major lip synch problem and the Samsung had a great picture as long as you were in front of it. Anything slightly to the side and the picture was unwatchable. The sound on this Tv is great as well. Definately a wonderful TV and I strongly recommend it.
Sony 46XBR9 is an excellent TV and worth the price

Sony BRAVIA XBR Series KDL-46XBR9 46-Inch 1080p 240Hz LCD HDTV, BlackI did extensive research to determine the best quality TV for my bedroom and settled on Sony's 46XBR9. The picture is excellent and the built-in internet capability is exceptional. We rent from Amazon movies all the time, which has saved money on our cable bill since we were able to reduce our plan. The other TVs I compared were Samsung's LED, which is nice and light, but I worry about the reliability now, expecially since the technology is new. I have seen both pictures and the XBR9 compares well with the LED. Sony's XBR8 has the ultimate picture, but it is pricy and lacks the internet capability. I also have a 52XBR6, which has a very vivid picture and I love it. I haven't seen much difference with the faster speed of the XBR9, but it's nice to have it for high-speed action. The price with Amazon was exceptional, and you want to watch prices from day to day because they vary several hundred dollars sometimes. Amazon usually doesn't adjust the price you paid if a new price goes down in 30 days, but they were nice enough to do it in my case. I also bought surge protectors from Amazon, but bought my heavy duty wall mount from another site. Amazon is excellent and my new Sony was delivered with "white glove" efficiency and care. Great TV and purchase experience.
Great TV, Good delivery service from Amazon

Reviewer: QB,
I was back and forth between this TV and the SamSung LN46B750. The price on this dropped to $1649 a few weeks ago, while the Samsung TV went up. The Contrast ratio for this one was 100000:1 compare to Samsung 150000:1, but really I can't tell with my eyes. I don't trust Samsung yet, but I trusted Sony XBR reputation. However, the price, and buy online with free delivery was nice to term saving money. I updated the firmware without any problem. Nice TV. I can't see any negative. I was very hesitant to buy Online since I don't know how it would turn out in case I need to return, but the AMaZON delivery was great. They unbox, set TV up, turn it on before I signed the acceptance. The delivery company they used was PILOT, which has a couple of guys in their 40's or 50's. Very nice guys, very gentlemen. Now I see the price went back up, I am glad I bought it. The sounds for this Sony TV is much better than the Samsung when I check it out at Bestbuys.
