Buy this VIZIO VF551XVT 55 Inch led back lit tv, you won't be sorry!

Review Date: December 22, 2009
Reviewer: Paul E. Seals, USA
About a month ago our old DLP HDTV started to go out and I decided that I was tired of throwing money at the TV (expensive bulb replacements) so I decided to go with a newer but STABLE technology.
After doing a lot of research and wanting the best picture I could get with out breaking the bank, I decided on the VIZIO VF551XVT.
There are some people who will tell you to go with a Plasma because you can get a lot more TV for less money than a LCD, especially a LED Back lit TV.
Their right, except, what no one mentions is that unless you can control the light in your room where the TV will be placed you will get horrible reflections because most Plasma TV's have very glossy reflective screens.
Most (not all) LCD TV's have a matte screen and usually do much better in a standard well lit living room like mine.
Also I should mention that Plasma TV's are generally much heaver to mount and consume a great deal more electricity than this TV does.
This is Plasma TV's dirty little secret.
The VIZIO VF551XVT is a bright LED back lit TV that will work well in a totally dark or well lit room.
As for the picture, I bought a VIZIO VBR100 Blu-ray Player to go with it and the picture is stunning!
I won't go into a lot of technical details but suffice to say this TV will have all the adjustments that you need even if you want to calibrate the picture as I did.
Another poster mentioned the sound as being terrible, I don't think it's that bad? it's not an audio system it's a high end TV, most people will use a surround sound system for great sound, but not to worry the Vizio's sound is just fine for casual TV watching.
For those of you who will use the included remote it's a nice back lit multifunction remote control.
There have been some people complaining about the fact that this model is 4.961" inches thick! I have never understood the obsession with supper thin?
Yes you can get a super thin Samsung at about $500 more! that's $100 a inch to look at the TV side ways and brag to your friends? weird but OK.
As for me I have never been happier with a TV than I am now.
Got mine for $1876 at Sams Club (sorry Amazon) and I highly recommend this TV, you will not be sorry.
VIZIO VF551XVT 55 Inch TruLED 240 Hz SPS HDTV

Reviewer: Fitznuckle, Northern Virginia, USA
I researched many high end LCD blacklit TV's before I decided to purchase the VIZIO VF551XVT 55 Inch TruLED 240 Hz SPS HDTV. This particular model has the same quality and features found in current high-end Samsung and LG Models but at almost half the price.

The carrier service that delivered the TV was excellent. They brought the TV from the delivery truck into my home and unpacked it and placed it in my living room for me. They also took away the packing materials when they left.

I hooked my XBox, Blu-Ray DVD Player, Amplifier, and HD Cable Box to this TV quite easily. The instructions that came with the TV were very clear and easy to understand. I was able to program the remote control that came with this TV to operate my cable box, amplifier and DVD player in no time with minimal effort. I just followed the instructions in the manual.

I am very pleased with this TV. The picture is awesome, the features are great, the quality is excellent and it didn't cost a fortune. I give it five stars.
Unbelieveable

I have been waiting for this TV to become available at my local COSTCO.

Picked it up on Saturday, November 28.

This replaces a high end SONY 46 inch unit.

The best video I have ever seen to date.

Only glitch so far is there's only 1 "COMPONENT input on the back", but this should not be an issue as most new gear is HDMI (4 inputs)!

Audio is fair to poor with the built in speakers, but, who uses the
built in speakers?

AMAZON, you need to check the competitions prices and warranty.( I'm a long time AMAZON customer).

COSTCO give you a 2YEAR warranty, and concierge service.
The most amazing TV I have seen after shopping for months!!!

Review Date: December 13, 2009
Reviewer: David E. Hess, Hershey, PA
I recently purchased the Vizio 55" TRU LED TV after about 2 months of intense research and shopping. I was originally going to get a 65" DLP because my friend had one and the picture on them are amazing, however they are quite large and space was a major issue in my smaller apartment.

The Smart Dimming LED's created the BLACKEST blacks possible, and this is amplified by the 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio. All colors are crystal clear and accurate, and everyone that has seen this TV has said that it looks like a 3D image, and that it really sucks you into the movies because it is so lifelike.

I have nothing bad to say about the TV, and continue to be amazed every time I use the TV (HD Cable, HD DVD, Blu Ray, Xbox). You WILL NOT BE DISSAPOINTED with this TV.
Best Picture Ever

After seeing the 52" Samsung LED at a friends house, I was so impressed with the LED picture quality that I knew I would end up buying one for myself. As I researched I soon found that everyone that makes a LED TV has a pretty strong rating, therefore I decided to wait until "black Friday" then buy from the one with the best price. Turned out to by the 55" Vizio LED from Amazon (under $2000 delivered). Even more amazing was I order it around 6pm on Friday, and it was delivered 2 days later on Sunday!!! We had it set up and running within the hour of receiving it. Set up was very easy, and the difference in picture quality from our 50" Plasma is amazing! I will not tell you that it is better than the Samsung, Sharp, or any other product. What I will tell you is 3 weeks later, we have no "buyers remorse". In fact we are still riding that new TV high! I would highly recommend this product.

No bulb replacement needed

Review Date: September 22, 2007
Reviewer: Traveler, Del Mar, CA
I highly recommend the HLTXX87 series for the following reasons:

1) LED engine eliminates the need for the 'lamp' bulb which you will find in other DLP, LCDs, SXRD/LCoS, etc projection TVs. Those with lamps will need to be replaced about every other year and cost about $300. And no 'spinning color wheel' which you can hear in some units.

2) LED engine are rated to last some twenty years...which is a lifetime...lowering total ownership cost and avoiding the difficulty of waiting for a service technician to replace a bulb days later...and left stranded without a TV.

3) Samsung LED HLT sets take only about 4 seconds for an image to appear when turned on. Others can take over 30 seconds...an eternity.

4) Deeper blacks. More vibrant colors compared to other projection TVs.

5) The cabinet style is more eternal and sleek with the small surrounding frame (less than one inch border). Style remains the same from product to product...so when Samsung releases the next generation of TVs...yours won't look dated.

6) The audio/sound isn't the greatest...however surely a home theatre system will be hooked up for a fine experience.

7) Samsung is smart in how they placed their connections (including 3 hdmi ports). Others will place them dead center in the back...which does not allow for easy access to the plugs during installation and later modifications. Samsung places it on the right side of the rear...which can be accessed easily yet are totally concealed from viewing. Even the power cord is to the back-right (and removable) so that when installing the larger tv in a cabinet...it is actually easier to place into the cabinet unit.

8) When changing/flipping channels on some TVs....it may take a few seconds before the next channel comes up. With the Samsung...right on demand.

9) No 'screen door effect' and/or 'image trailer blurs' of a LCD. No burn-ins and high use of electricity of a Plasma. No slow start-up times of a LCoS system. And the screen isn't glossy to where you can see reflections from windows and he surrounding environment. Wide viewing angle.

10) LED set has contrast ratio of 10,000 to 1. Very bright picture which you can customize to your particular tastes.

I really have enjoyed my HLT6187. Not only for the amazing picture image, but for the concept that LED is the way of the future. Just think of car tail lights and other lighting applications...LEDs is the evolutionary step forward.
Finally got my perfect TV

Reviewer: James Wedewer,
With Amazon's GREAT price on this TV, had to pick one up. I find that the Sony A2000 & A2020 has a lot of motion blur, and while the Mitsubishi was good in my opinion, too many reviews put the Samsungs higher for color accuracy (Mitsu's 6-color light system isn't any good if the colors are all off) among a host of other things. And yes, this thing does 1080p over component video on an Xbox 360! Next step...have to test my HD-DVD player on my Xbox 360 to see if I'm getting true 1080p out of that too...all with component cables and not VGA too! On screen menus are good, colors are vivid and amazingly bright. The cabinet seems a little flimsy. You can easily shift the cabinet and "bend" the screen. It seems to settle pretty well when moving it, and that is probably the only thing I question about this TV. The picture and inputs are rock solid. I chose this over spending several hundred more on the 6189S because the upper model only has HDMI 1.3 spec that I would care about, and the more I have read the more it appears that HDMI 1.3 is probably 5 years away from ANYthing being produced in it, and perhaps 10 years from HD television using it. By then, we'll probably have leapfrogged over HDMI anyway and it will be a moot technology.
Premium Product, Bargain Price

Review Date: August 27, 2007
Reviewer: Amozarte, Saint Louis, MO - United States
I've owned this TV for about three months now and I am extremely happy with my purchase. I spent a lot of time researching different HD options, including LCD, Plasma, and DLP and this unit was the winner. There are plenty of websites to help you decide which HD option is right for you in terms of LCD, Plasma, and DLP so I'll just stick to DLP comparison.

One of the first things you should know about this model is that it *DOES NOT REQUIRE BULB REPLACEMENT* It has a special LED instead of a bulb- this is really important because a regular complaint against "normal" DLP TVs is that a bulb would need to be changed every couple of years. At a couple hundred bucks per bulb, there's some cost savings, not to mention the hassle.

Second, since another knock against DLP is the amount of space they take up, you should know that this is the "slim" version, which means it takes up less space front to back. It will fit easily into most cabinets or cubby holes. It's also pretty lightweight for it's size (about 100lbs) so getting it where you want it is not difficult. You'll need two people, but that's only because it is just too large for one person to get his/her arms around it.

Third, this unit has a pretty extensive input panel. I had no problem getting my Satellite receiver, DVD player, and several video game systems hooked into the TV without the need for switch boxes. It has a digital TOSLINK output for surround sound systems.

Last but not least, Amazon has a great price on this unit. Believe me, I shopped around, but couldn't find a better deal. Sure, some places offered a lower base price, but they also charged shipping. One important note regarding shipping: the shipper had to call to schedule an appointment before they would deliver. This was great security as far as making sure a 61" TV wasn't just tossed on my doorstep for the whole neighbourhood to see, potentially hours before anyone would be home. You'll just want to be sure that your phone number is up to date so that the shipper is able to reach you.

Add these perks to the fact that this unit has superb picture quality and you've got yourself a really great product at a really great price. if you're looking for the right HD TV, just click "Add to Cart", check out, and enjoy.
Amazing TV, Great Shipping Service and Great Customer Service

I have to concur with all the other reviewers. I got this TV in May and have loved it ever since. The delivery was on time as scheduled and Eagle was extremely friendly. I suppose like any company you have good people and bad people who do the delivery. These people were great. People come over and rave about the picture quality. The fact that you don't have to replace the bulb, makes the fact that this TV is more expensive than last year's model a no brainer to purchase. Also, all the settings you create for each input are saved after a power outage and are also set per output instead of for the entire TV. They really seem to have gotten it right with this TV. It also seems just as bright as the old model, so it doesn't seem the LED technology that is used has lessened the quality of this TV. Infact it only increased the value. It also has 3 HDMI inputs, which is really nice if you don't have a receiver that does HDMI switching. I already have a really good one that I purchased before HDMI switching was available and I don't want to get rid of it. Finally, I did have a problem with the first TV. There was a dead set of pixels in the lower left portion. You could barely notice it but for this kind of money I wanted a replacement. I figured it would be a nightmare as I have read some horor stories. To my surprise, as long as you notice a flaw in the first 30 days, they immediately ship the replacement TV and Eagle then picks up the defective one when they drop off the new one. They do not wait for the defective one to be received. So that meant I wasn't without a TV at all. They also don't charge your card for a second TV. It had to be the easiest exchange I ever did. I have to say that I am amazed at the quality of the TV and at the quality of customer service I got when the first set was defective. Kudos to Amazon and to Eagle.
Market Research Pays Off

Review Date: October 16, 2007
Reviewer: S. Read, Oregon
I have been contemplating purchasing a new, large screen TV for a couple years but was unsure of the best choice of technology, brand and retailer. It seems each technology has unique advantages and disadvantages however, it became very clear that DLP had a huge price advantage. The drawbacks were limited side viewing angle, depth of the box itself, Bulb Life and the 'Rainbow Effect' of the color wheel.

I found the side viewing angles to be more than adequate for my application, and Samsung's new LED light did away with the color wheel and replacement bulb costs. And the depth of this new model is very reasonable at roughly 14".

I spent quite a few hours in stores viewing different models but it is hard to tell much in stores because they usually run high definition video loops that are designed to compliment the TV and do not give you any idea what you will get when you hook it up at home. With that said, the new HLT6187s (all the 87s models) seemed to be excellent and the best bargain for the cost conscious consumer like me.

The next step was finding the best price from a reputable retailer. Being an avid E-commerce advocate I began researching best price opportunities with comparison shopping engines on the internet. I found Amazon consistently had the best deal and I knew I could trust them for customer service. And as I checked into the product warranty I also noticed Amazon's Best Price Guarantee. I have been watching the price fluctuate on this product so I just check it every day and I have already received a $45 credit because the price dropped for a couple days last week.

Another tip, Use a Visa Card to pay for the purchase and your warranty is automatically extended a full year through Visa. And Visa offers a 4 year extended warranty that you can purchase for much less than any I have seen. But it doesn't make sense to get the extra warranty until your other one is almost expired as they would run concurrently and you would only get an extra 2 years over the manuf. and Visa warranty.

Now for the actual TV... I love it! The picture is excellent, especially when viewing DVDs from the Samsung 1080p upconverting DVD player I picked up at the same time but even satellite looks great. I should say though that I have a Harman Kardon AVR745 which upconverts all video to 720p or 1080i.

I have a pretty small living room and was worried whether a 61" screen might be too much. Seating is about 8 feet from the TV and it is okay. I think any closer and I would want to step back to a 56".

I have been using the preset color and contrast balance as I want to get used to the TV before I start making these adjustments.

Delivery was excellent, earlier than expected and it arrived in perfect condition.

I highly recommend the TV and Amazon as the place to buy it. I shopped all the local stores and saved around $400 over Sears and Circuit City and they would not match Amazon's price. It's a big purchase so I needed the confidence in the seller and Amazon is tops.

Home Movie Theater!

Review Date: July 29, 2008
Reviewer: R. Melcher,
This is the 2nd Samsung DLP that I have owned. The first being a Samsung 56" 5650, it still worked great when upgrading to this model, I just really wanted the new features such as the LED projection and admittedly the extra size (insert joke here). I did the research into the plasma and LCD units and just couldn't rationalize why I would spend comparable money for a 42" TV. Along with this price difference, the plasmas and LCDs, in my opinion, just don't handle the non-HD programming nearly as well as DLP units, too pixilated. As for the HD picture, it's amazing... I would gladly put it up against a plasma or LCD.

If you are thinking that this TV might be too big for your room, it's likely not! The viewing distance that I typically have on this TV is around 7-8' away and it's perfect. At this distance it is comparable to the ratio you are experiencing in a good seat at the theater. You can adjust the display to the brightness level of your preference, but just in general I have found the DLP to be a softer more eye friendly image than the LCD or Plasma and comparable to what you experience in a modern theater.

For the gamers, this set is the bomb! If you have found yourself changing the brightness level just to be able to see the details in darker games like Gears of War and then switching to watching TV to have a whitewash... there is a quick select button on the remote control that goes to `Game' mode that trasitions the picture to a mode that allows you see stuff the way that the games designers intended them to be seen.

I will leave you with this thought... You are just sitting down in your favorite chair, the unbelievable smell of the extra buttered popcorn that your friends and family are passing around dominates the air ... then all of a sudden the intro scene of Star Wars Episode 4 starts rolling across this 67" badboy while the theme song belts out of a well bassed sound system....... Yeah, it's worth it!

First and foremost, size isn't everything. But it's certainly nice to have! When I began researching TVs to replace my 9 year-old Toshiba 36" CRT, I was only looking in the 46-52" range. I'm in the military and move every couple years, so I needed something that I could move safely and that would work in any reasonable environment. This eliminated plasmas, which reputedly do not perform well at higher altitudes. Next I looked at LEDs. The black levels are getting better, although it seems B&W stores continue to carry models 2-3 generations back for the same price you can order the newest models online. But then you run in to the dead pixel issue and the insecurity that comes along with an LED, and the hassle if you have a dead pixel out of the box and you purchased online. Nevertheless, I continued to look at LEDs until going out to a B&M store to actually look at TVs. I knew ahead of time that stores don't calibrate TVs on display and you can't judge picture quality based on what you see in the store, but I did want to get a better sense of the layout, saturation, issues with any uneven lighting of the screen, and so forth. On my way to the back wall with LEDs I walked through an aisle of DLP sets - a couple Sammies and a Mitsubishi. They looked nice, and they were larger than life. Black levels were solid, even when uncalibrated. So I went home and started researching DLPs to compare to the Sony and Samsung LEDs I had previously narrowed my search to. Lo and behold, the Samsung 6xA750 TVs were getting the most favorable reviews by videophiles. They didn't like the sound from the TV's speakers (and for good reason - it sounds like a tin can) but as a monitor everyone seemed to love the LED-based 750 series. I also read briefly about last year's 650 series, but didn't want to bother with bulb-based technology, so I was left with the 61" or 67" version of the A750 series. It seemed more people had QC issues with the 61" than the 67" for some reason, so I decided to bite the bullet and buy the 67", which is so much larger than I originally contemplated that I can only imagine what my wife is thinking about me right now. However, the 67A750 is cheaper than any of the newer-model 52" LED flatscreens I was considering, still weighs less than my old 36" CRT, and the picture is incredible. On blu-ray discs the picture is breathtaking. I haven't seen HD cable or satellite on it (I'm with DirecTV and they provide absolutely NO incentive to upgrade, wanting an arm and a leg to do so) but others with similar observations to mine on other aspects of this TV claim it's the best picture they've ever seen. Those are certainly my sentiments with blu-ray. When I set up my 5.1 home theater it felt like I was *in* the movie, not just watching it. I'm afraid to watch a horror movie on this thing - I might poop myself. Have I mentioned the picture is incredible?

Even on SD sources, the TV looks great. It upscales to 1080p, and does a better job of it, in fact, than my Denon receiver, through which all sources run. You will still see some fuzziness around edges if you look closely, for nothing I've found can upscale a SD source perfectly, and you'll see some splotches on a completely black screen, but the picture on this TV even with SD sources is more than acceptable. Perhaps the fuzziness would be even more difficult to see on a smaller TV of equal capability (the 61A750) but what you gain with the extra size when using HD sources outweighs the advantage the 61" might have with SD sources by virtue of its size.

I did hundreds of hours of homework over 4 months before buying a TV. I was confident I had made the right choice when I ordered this from Amazon, and am certain of it now that the TV has arrived.

One final note, which is about shipping: my experience was as follows. Ordered TV at 1pm central time friday. Amazon package tracker originally said TV would not ship until Tuesday. This is because CEVA tries to get a full truck before pulling out of amazon warehouse. TV actually shipped same day, and arrived in Kansas City at 9am Sunday morning. Monday was Columbus Day. TV was delivered to my house in perfect condition at 9am Tuesday. Five stars for Amazon and CEVA as well as the TV!

Make sure you read the reviews on the optional extended warranty here on amazon before you buy it.

Summary: The only drawback of this TV is the quality of the sound it outputs. The picture is flawless. Amazon and CEVA did a great job getting the TV to me, which along with outstanding price makes Amazon one of the best sources for this TV.
Wonderful Picture, Easy Setup, Great Amazon Service

I recently purchased this TV from Amazon (sold from Amazon inventory for $2049.98 grand total with 24 months same as cash). Delivered in one week by a private carrier, was delivered to my TV stand and they checked to see if it worked. Very nice delivery and service at no extra charge! Outstanding picture. Can't really do a fair comparison with a big screen plasma but at 1/3rd the price this thing is awesome. 1080i Directv signal looks great. 1080p XBox 360 is the best gaming I have experienced. I have yet to play with picture/color adjustments but right out of box I am happy. Can't say about sound as I have it hooked to a home theatre system. Plenty of connectivity. TV has a nice finish and is aesthetically pleasing. Remote is average but I have a programmable remote so it won't be used. I would strongly suggest this TV if you are not looking to spend big bucks for a 67" TV. I couldn't find the Samsung matched stand so I went to Best Buy and got an Init NT-C1201 stand ($319.99) that actually matches this thing perfectly and has two nice big shelves and raises TV to my perfered viewing height (a little higher than others I looked at). Hope this helps.
Stunning!!!

Had this set for three days and have found nothing to dislike about it. It replaced my 65" CRT RP Mitsubishi and it's like having HD for the first time all over again. Great array of input connections (though they're on the wrong side for me for now; new stand is ordered). Makes even 480i dvd's look great.
all you can say is WOW

This TV is awsome you cant find a better deal for 2k I almost bought a mitsubishi 72inch that would have been a huge mistake this thing has an incredible picture and if you are a gamer you wont believe your eyes If you own a x-box 360 make sure you set it to 1080 an prepare to get blown away. But the sound quality from the box blows I highly recomend a surround system and a hormony 880 universal remote.
